Course components/units/outline:
An engaging and relevant course investigating various aspects of mass media. From TV and film to newspapers and magazines, via websites, wikis and the music industry, pupils will explore a wide range of media texts and create their own in the practical elements.
How the course is assessed?
AS Media Studies
Unit 1 - Investigating Media: 2 hour written exam, involving four short answer questions and one longer essay
Unit 2 - Creating Media: two linked production pieces and a 1500 word evaluation
A2 Media Studies
Unit 3 - Critical Perspectives: 2 hour written exam, involving three questions and one longer essay
Unit 4 - Research and Production: a critical investigation and a production piece
Where could this course lead?
A degree course in a media/film/TV related field
Work within the media (eg: website design, film production, journalism)
Film making courses
Further information:
A useful foundation for working within the highly competitive and much sought after media workplace. The course is also good for those wishing to improve their technical/ICT skills as there is a heavily weighted practical element.
